Twitter Reflection

I could see Twitter being most useful in my professional development.  My connections in terms of accounting educators is limited to the faculty within the UH system so being able to branch out into a global community of accounting educators could be a great resource.

We recently switched textbooks and publishers, which required our faculty to learn a new homework manager.  It takes times to learn and set up and new system and you have to run through an entire semester before you learn a system's flaws, limitations and strong points.  If I could find feedback from other instructors as far as how they like a system and its pros and cons, I could save myself a semester of trial and error.

I know there a also a great deal of other resources available to use in my classes but finding out what they are and how to implement them can be a daunting task.  The Twitter network could provide leads into the most relevant and effective resources and how to best incorporate them into my class.

Twitter Resources

Twitter has the potential to distribute pieces of information to an endless number of people. It is a great way to "spread the word" about something that you want to share with the world. Here are the top 10 Twitter people I found and how they could be useful to me:

  1.     Case Foundation - a great resource to find out about new and exciting ideas
  2.     AACSB International - is an online job board exclusively for business school careers
  3.     EY Careers - to stay current with the entry level demands for the CPA industry
  4.     UH Shidler Alumni - to make connections with alumni from the college of business
  5.     MBA Students - to find tips for students in terms of surviving business school
  6.     Academic Impressions - to learn about how to put on cost-effective seminars for higher education professionals
  7.     Entrepreneurs Club - to learn about new up and coming business leaders
  8.     Shidler College - to stay current with the trends of the college of business at Manoa
  9.     ProDevLeeward CC - to find out about professional development opportunities at Leeward
  10.     Becker Communications - find out about Hawaii PR, industry trends, topics, and news item

Using Blogs in My Classes

Learning accounting can be challenging and as an instructor, I might think I know the best way for students to learn this subject.  If I could get into the students' heads, they could reveal their tips and tricks that could help others.  By providing a blog that is an ongoing stream of tips from students in past and current classes, new incoming students could learn from their experiences.

Five Easy Tools for Global Learning

I hope to:
  • Learn about the newest tech tools and how it's used in education
  • How I could use these tools in my classes
  • Pick up tips from other instructors
